Personally ive always avoided such designs as one day when it failes., thats why i designed a relay free vhf amplifier for handhelds, that just used diodes for the recieve path through the amplifier. Great antenna with smart design for attic and outdoors with lifetime warranty on its parts. Amplifiers are another issue though. Lots of diy stuff out there.
